The penultimate day of racing in Villasimuis, Sardinia threw everything at the ten teams competing for first blood in this year’s GC32 Racing Tour.
The British team also welcomed Italian freestyle skier and SMITHS ambassador Silvia Bertagna onboard for racing, swapping snow for water for the first time. “It was a super nice day, so great to see the sport from the inside, its so different from what I’m doing. I was really impressed by how calm they are on the boat, amazing to see how well they work together.”
Rob Wilson, INEOS Rebels coach summed up the day; “Interesting day, the forecast this morning and some of the early models were giving us 20 knots. But when we got out there you could see the wind was dying quickly and there was quite an awkward swell, making for tricky racing conditions. That coupled with the breeze being dead offshore made it hard to pick the right side of the beat consistently.
“Oman Air did a really nice job, and our guys made some good improvements and a bullet in the penultimate race. There’s some good learning to be had from today and the boys finished in third overall with plenty to play for tomorrow, it’s all pretty tight on the leader board.”
