Rebels in podium position

Act 1 GC32 Racing Tour 2019, Villasimius Italy – Day 2

The breeze came in enough to bring foiling action back to the Capo Carbonara race course on day two of racing aiding much relief for the race committee and sailing teams after yesterday’s frustrations.

Conditions were still tricky with the wind refusing to settle into a solid direction meaning calm heads and consistent boat handling were the call of the day.

The highlight of the day for INEOS Rebels UK came in race one; delivering a good start to round mark one in first place they continued to lead the fleet for much of the race. After a tightly fought contest they were narrowly beaten at the finish line by Oman Air to finish the race in second place.

The Rebels placed 2, 7, 5, 3, 5 across the five fiercely competitive races, ending the day in third overall with two days of action remaining.

Jono Macbeth, Sailing Team Manager looked back at the day; “A tricky day with the breeze changing strength and direction with no real pattern forming, from our point of view the guys did a really good job of consolidating the results, we sailed smartly to come out of the day in a good spot.

A day like today you could easily end up getting frustrated with such variable conditions, but one of the team’s strengths, is the ability to stay cool in these situations and consolidate our position.”
