With 25 days to go until the start of the PRADA Cup, the Challenger Selection Series, INEOS TEAM UK are now heading into the shed to make the upgrades needed to make BRITANNIA competitive across all wind ranges.

Four days of racing drew to a close with the PRADA Christmas Cup. In the only race of the day between INEOS TEAM UK and Emirates Team New Zealand, light airs saw neither boat finish in the 45-minute time limit. After a couple of hours wait, racing was abandoned.

It is now all about the next 25 days as Ben Ainslie explained.

“This has been the most important week of our campaign. It is obvious for everyone to see we are struggling with our speed, both in the light airs and in general. We have three weeks to improve our performance to get us into contention in the PRADA Cup across all wind conditions.

“We have some good ideas about what has been causing the issues and the extra drag so now our big focus will be to make the necessary modifications, alongside a host of other planned upgrades to BRITANNIA, and improve our performance to where it needs to be”.

The Challenger Selection Series will begin in Auckland on 15th January 2021 and will see INEOS TEAM UK, American Magic and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli compete over a five-week period for the right to face Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup in March.
